One of the greatest truths revealed throughout Scripture is that God calls His people to be different. In Leviticus 20:26, the Lord declares:
"You shall be holy unto Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from other people, that you should be Mine."
God did not separate His people merely to make them successful, wealthy, influential, or respected in society. His primary purpose is much deeper and more eternal: He desires His people to live holy lives that reflect His character.
Many believers often focus on earthly achievements—careers, businesses, education, and material prosperity. While these things have their place, they are not the ultimate reason God has called us. The central purpose of our calling is holiness.
The Call to Daily Sanctification
The Apostle Peter echoes this truth:
“But as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all your conduct.” (1 Peter 1:15)
Holiness is not limited to church attendance or outward appearance. It affects every area of life:
- Our thoughts
- Our words
- Our actions
- Our relationships
- Our decisions
- Our priorities
God desires His people to grow continually in holiness and obedience. Those who sincerely pursue a holy life experience God’s guidance, protection, and faithfulness in remarkable ways.
The Responsibility of Parents
One of the strongest themes throughout Scripture is the responsibility of parents to raise their children in the fear of God.
Many parents sacrifice greatly to provide good education, comfortable homes, quality clothing, and opportunities for their children. These efforts are important, but they should never replace spiritual training.
Children need more than academic success; they need a relationship with God.
Parents are called to:
- Teach God’s Word faithfully.
- Model a holy lifestyle.
- Lead family prayer and worship.
- Guide children toward spiritual maturity.
- Encourage reverence for God from an early age.
A child’s spiritual foundation is more valuable than any earthly achievement.
Holiness Before Prosperity
Some people mistakenly believe that serving God means remaining poor or unsuccessful. However, the Bible presents a different picture.
Consider the examples of:
- Job
- Abraham
- Jacob
- Joseph
- Daniel
- Esther
- Mordecai
God elevated each of these individuals and blessed them greatly. Yet their prosperity was not the goal—it was the result of their faithfulness and obedience.
Scripture teaches that God’s blessings come without the sorrow that often accompanies worldly pursuits. When God prospers His people, He does so according to His timing and purpose.
True success begins with obedience.
The Danger of Forgetting God
Throughout Israel’s history, God repeatedly rescued, protected, and blessed His people. Yet many times they forgot Him after receiving His blessings.
The tragedy was not that they lacked blessings; the tragedy was that they valued the blessings more than the Blesser.
This danger still exists today.
Many believers become consumed with:
- Business
- Wealth
- Careers
- Entertainment
- Family ambitions
- Personal comfort
Gradually, prayer becomes neglected, fellowship weakens, and devotion fades.
The Lord warned His people that turning away from Him would lead to spiritual decline. God desires first place in our lives—not merely a place among many priorities.
Lessons from Solomon
King Solomon began his journey with wisdom and devotion. Yet despite receiving divine warnings, he slowly drifted away from God.
His heart became divided, and eventually he turned from the Lord.
Solomon’s life reminds us that a strong beginning is not enough. We must remain faithful throughout our entire journey.
Many believers start in the Spirit but gradually become distracted by worldly concerns. God’s call is not merely to begin well, but to finish well.
The Example of Job
Job provides one of the greatest examples of personal holiness in Scripture.
He was careful about:
- His thoughts
- His eyes
- His speech
- His integrity
Job even interceded regularly for his children, fearing that they might unknowingly sin against God.
Because of Job’s faithfulness, God placed a hedge of protection around him, his family, and all that belonged to him.
His life demonstrates an important principle:
Holiness invites God’s favor and protection.
Returning to Our First Priority
The message for believers today is clear:
- God must come first.
- Holiness must come first.
- Obedience must come first.
Not our business.
Not our career.
Not even our family.
When God occupies first place, every other area of life falls into its proper order.
The Lord remains faithful to His promises. He blesses, restores, guides, and strengthens those who seek Him wholeheartedly.
A Call to Decision
Today is an opportunity to return to God’s original purpose for our lives.
Let us choose:
- To pursue holiness.
- To seek God daily.
- To teach our children His ways.
- To obey His commandments.
- To place Him above every earthly priority.
If we return to Him with sincere hearts, He promises restoration, guidance, and blessing.
May we be a people who live according to His purpose, reflecting His holiness in every aspect of life.
“Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
May this be the prayer and commitment of every believer.
