Living the New Life in Christ: Letting Go and Moving Forward

by perfectinchristjesuslife community
A New Beginning in Christ

God is a Creator, and one of His greatest works is transforming lives. Scripture tells us that anyone who is in Christ becomes a new creation. This means real change—not just on the outside, but deep within the heart.

But this transformation comes with a condition: the old life must pass away. We cannot hold on to sinful habits, harmful attitudes, and past burdens while expecting to fully experience the new life God offers.

Removing the Old Before Receiving the New

In Zechariah 3, Joshua the high priest stood before God in dirty garments. Before he could receive clean, holy clothing, the old garments had to be removed. This is a powerful picture of our spiritual lives.

God does not simply cover over our old ways—He calls us to let them go completely. Only then can we truly “put on” the new life He gives.

Letting Go of Negative Attitudes

The Bible clearly instructs us to remove harmful attitudes such as:

  • Anger
  • Bitterness
  • Jealousy
  • Slander and evil speech

Speaking badly about others is not a small issue—it reflects a heart that has not yet been fully renewed. God calls us to live differently, with love, grace, and truth in our words.

The Power of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is at the center of the Christian life. God forgives us fully and freely through Christ, and He asks us to do the same for others.

Jesus taught that refusing to forgive affects our own spiritual lives. It can rob us of peace and block the flow of God’s blessings. True freedom comes when we forgive from the heart—not just in words, but genuinely letting go.

Leaving the Past Behind

Many people struggle because they hold on to past hurts, mistakes, or regrets. But the apostle Paul encourages us to forget what is behind and press forward toward what God has ahead.

This doesn’t mean ignoring the past, but it means not allowing it to control your future. In Christ, you are not defined by what was—you are shaped by what God is doing now.

True Revival Comes Through Change

God promises renewal, healing, guidance, joy, and peace. But these blessings are connected to a transformed life.

When we remove sin, stop harmful behaviors, and choose righteousness, we begin to experience spiritual revival. Our lives reflect God’s light more clearly, and His presence becomes more real to us.

The Meaning of Jubilee

The idea of a “Year of Jubilee” represents freedom, restoration, and complete forgiveness. Just as God forgives our sins and remembers them no more, we are called to forgive others from the wrongs they have done to us.

Living in this spirit of forgiveness brings deep peace and spiritual freedom.

Final Reflection

To truly live the new life in Christ, we must be willing to let go—of sin, of bitterness, and of the past. When we do, God renews us, restores us, and leads us into a life filled with His peace and purpose.

Let go. Forgive. Move forward. And embrace the new life God has prepared for us.
