Even among those who know the Lord Jesus Christ, there are many who live with deep worries and burdens.
Perhaps you are one of them.
You may be carrying concerns about your family, your health, your future, your finances, or situations that seem completely beyond your control. You may be smiling on the outside while carrying a heavy burden in your heart.
But God has a word of encouragement for you today.
“Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7
What a wonderful promise!
The Bible does not simply tell us to endure our worries. It tells us to cast them upon the Lord because He cares for us.
A Lesson from a Time of War
Let me share a story.
During the Second World War, many young children suffered terribly because they had no food. They were hungry, frightened, and deeply affected by the trauma they had experienced.
The Allied forces established a camp where these children could be gathered together, protected, and cared for. They were given good food, clothing, and a safe place to stay.
Their physical needs were being met.
Yet something unexpected happened.
At night, the children could not sleep.
Even though they were safe, well-fed, and protected, they would suddenly become frightened. They were restless and anxious. Those caring for them could not understand why.
Finally, a psychologist examined the children and came to an interesting conclusion.
He recommended that the children continue to receive their regular meals, but that each child should also be given a piece of bread to hold when going to bed.
So they did exactly that.
Every night, as the children went to sleep, they were given a piece of bread to hold in their hands.
Something remarkable happened.
That night, the children slept peacefully.
They were no longer afraid.
Why?
The psychologist explained that these children had experienced hunger so severely that, deep inside, they were still afraid that they might not have food the next day. Even though they were now being fed, the fear remained in their minds.
But when they went to sleep holding a piece of bread, they had something tangible that reminded them:
“I will have food. I am safe. I will not go hungry tonight.”
Their hearts became calm, and they could sleep.
What Are You Holding On To?
There is a powerful lesson for us here.
Many times, we know that God is taking care of us, yet we continue to worry.
We know He has provided for us before, but we are afraid about tomorrow.
We know He is faithful, but anxiety keeps troubling our hearts.
We know He is with us, but we still ask, “What will happen to me?”
God is saying to you today:
“Cast all your cares upon Me, because I care for you.”
You don’t have to carry tomorrow in your hands.
You don’t have to carry your family’s future.
You don’t have to carry your health concerns.
You don’t have to carry your financial burdens.
You don’t have to carry every unanswered question.
Give them to Jesus.
The Lord is greater than the situation that is causing you to worry.
Whatever you are concerned about today, God is still Lord over it.
He Cares for You
Notice what Peter says:
“Casting all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.”
God does not ask you to give Him your burdens because He is distant or unconcerned.
He asks you to give them to Him because He cares about you.
Your tears matter to Him.
Your struggles matter to Him.
Your family matters to Him.
Your future matters to Him.
The things that keep you awake at night are not too small for God, and they are not too big for Him either.
When you place your worries into His hands, you are declaring:
“Lord, I trust You more than I trust my fears.”
That is faith.
Do Not Let Worry Weaken Your Spiritual Life
Worry can become a powerful enemy in the life of a believer.
It can occupy our thoughts, steal our peace, weaken our faith, and keep us from enjoying the presence of God.
A person can attend church, pray, worship, and know Scripture—and yet still be consumed by anxiety.
That is why we must learn to surrender our worries to God again and again.
The Lord is alive.
He is still working.
He has not forgotten you.
He has not abandoned you.
He is able to do what you cannot do.
So why continue carrying what God has invited you to place in His hands?
What About Your Health?
Perhaps your greatest concern today is your health.
Maybe you are deeply troubled because of an illness affecting you or someone you love.
Bring that concern to the Lord.
Pray.
Trust Him.
Seek appropriate medical care, and at the same time place your fears and uncertainties before God.
The Lord is our healer and our refuge. Whether He works through an immediate miracle, through medical treatment, through the support of others, or through strength and grace in the midst of the trial, He remains faithful.
You are not alone.
God Is Your Peace
Sometimes we want God to change our circumstances immediately.
But sometimes, before He changes the circumstances, He changes our hearts in the middle of them.
He gives peace where there should be panic.
He gives strength where there should be weakness.
He gives hope where there seems to be no way forward.
The peace of God is not dependent upon everything around us being perfect.
It comes from knowing that God is with us.
So today, release your worries.
Release the fear.
Release the uncertainty.
Release the questions you cannot answer.
Release the future into God’s hands.
And say:
“Lord, I cannot carry this anymore. I give it to You. You care for me, and I trust You.”
He Is the One Who Does Good
Let your heart worship Him today.
Even when you don’t understand, worship Him.
Even when you are waiting, worship Him.
Even when you are walking through a difficult season, worship Him.
Because He remains good.
He is the One who does good.
He is the One who has been faithful.
He is the One who sustains you.
He is the One who cares for you.
And as you praise Him, let your heart remember that your life is not in the hands of your circumstances.
Your life is in the hands of God.
A Prayer for Those Carrying Worry
Heavenly Father,
I bring every burden and every worry before You today.
You know the things that trouble my heart. You know the fears I cannot express to anyone else.
Your Word tells me to cast all my cares upon You because You care for me.
So, Lord, I choose to surrender my worries to You.
Give me Your peace.
Strengthen my faith.
Help me not to live in fear of tomorrow.
Teach me to trust You even when I cannot understand what You are doing.
Touch those who are struggling with sickness. Strengthen those who are discouraged. Provide for those who are in need. Comfort those whose hearts are troubled.
Remind me that You are alive, You are faithful, and You are always with me.
I place my cares in Your hands.
In the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
One Final Thought
You may not be able to control everything that happens tomorrow.
But you can decide who will hold your tomorrow.
Don’t carry your cares alone.
Cast them upon Him.
Because He cares for you.
And when you place your worries in the hands of the One who holds the whole world, you can rest.
God is still on the throne.
Jesus is still Lord.
And you are still in His care.
“Cast all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
