The Path of Life
God has directed humanity to walk in the paths of life—paths that are purposeful and lead to eternal life.
“And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.”
— Jeremiah 21:8 (KJV)
In light of God’s word, we must ask ourselves: Which path are we taking?
Jesus clearly teaches that there are two paths in life—one that leads to destruction and another that leads to life.
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
— Matthew 7:13–14 (KJV)
Our God is a faithful God who leads His people along the path of life. However, we must also remain faithful to Him. When we follow Him and listen to His word, God establishes us firmly on the right path.
“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”
— 2 Thessalonians 3:3 (KJV)
God’s faithfulness goes even deeper. He is the One who calls us, sanctifies us, and preserves us until the end. Through His grace, He is able to keep us blameless until the coming of the Lord.
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:23–24 (KJV)
When God calls us to the path of life, it does not mean the journey will be easy. The path is narrow, and along the way we may face temptations and trials. Yet we can trust God completely, because He is faithful and will always provide a way for us to endure.
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)
Therefore, we must hold firmly to our faith. God is a promise-keeping God who never fails.
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”
— Hebrews 10:23 (KJV)
May God grant us the grace to remain faithful in our lives, trusting that He is able to lead us safely along the path of life.
