There are moments in life when we quietly ask ourselves: Will this work out? Will God open the door? Will my prayers be answered? Whether it concerns our family, career, ministry, health, or future, uncertainty often tests our faith.
Genesis 24 tells the remarkable story of Eliezer, Abraham’s servant, who was sent on a mission to find a bride for Isaac. Arriving in a foreign land with no clear idea of whom to approach, he turned to God in prayer. He asked the Lord for guidance and then waited in silence, watching to see whether God would prosper his journey.
Like Eliezer, many believers find themselves standing at crossroads, waiting for God’s direction. The encouraging truth is that God delights in leading His children and making their paths successful according to His will.
Success Begins with Seeking God
Eliezer did not rely on human wisdom alone. He prayed before acting. He understood that true success comes from God’s guidance rather than personal effort.
Many times, we become anxious when things do not happen according to our timeline. We question, worry, and even lose heart. Yet God often calls us to trust Him while He works behind the scenes.
Prayer positions our hearts to receive God’s direction. It reminds us that our future is in His hands.
The Power of Waiting Quietly
One striking detail in Genesis 24 is that Eliezer remained silent while waiting for confirmation.
In a world that encourages instant reactions and constant communication, believers are often called to practice godly patience. Not every concern needs to be announced. Not every opportunity requires immediate action.
There are seasons when God asks us to wait, observe, pray, and trust.
Jesus Himself demonstrated this principle. During His trial before Pilate, He often remained silent. His confidence rested not in defending Himself but in trusting the Father’s plan.
Silence before God can be a powerful expression of faith.
Obedience Opens the Way
The Bible repeatedly teaches that obedience is connected to God’s blessing.
Joshua 1:8 says:
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night… for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
God’s Word is not merely meant to be read occasionally. It is meant to be meditated upon, obeyed, and applied daily.
When believers align their lives with God’s instructions, they place themselves in a position where God can guide and bless their steps.
Success in God’s kingdom is not simply about financial prosperity or personal achievement. It is about walking in His purpose and experiencing His favor.
Meditating on God’s Word Brings Wisdom
Psalm 1 describes a blessed person as someone who delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.
Such a person is compared to a tree planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in season. The Psalm concludes with a powerful promise:
“Whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:3)
God’s Word renews our minds, strengthens our faith, and equips us to make wise decisions. The more we fill our hearts with Scripture, the more clearly we can discern God’s direction.
Instead of dwelling on fear, criticism, or uncertainty, believers are called to dwell on the promises of God.
Remember Your Calling
Isaiah 48:15 declares:
“I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.”
God does not call people only to abandon them. Those whom He calls, He equips. Those whom He leads, He sustains.
Many believers struggle because they forget that they are called by God. When we understand that our lives are part of His divine purpose, we gain confidence that He will complete what He has begun.
The God who called Abraham, guided Eliezer, and fulfilled His promises is the same God who is working in our lives today.
Three Ways God Answers Prayer
One of the most important truths every believer must understand is that God answers prayer in different ways.
1. God Says “Yes” Immediately
Sometimes what we ask for aligns perfectly with God’s will and timing. In those moments, God grants the request quickly.
When the need is urgent and necessary, the Lord responds without delay. Throughout Scripture, we see God answering prayers instantly because the request fulfilled His purpose.
When God says “yes,” give Him all the glory and remember that every good gift comes from Him.
2. God Says “Wait”
Not every prayer receives an immediate answer. Sometimes God delays because His timing is better than ours.
A delayed answer is not a denied answer.
The Lord may be preparing circumstances, building our character, strengthening our faith, or arranging things behind the scenes. What seems like silence may actually be God’s preparation.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us:
“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”
Trust God’s timing. What He has promised, He will accomplish at the right moment.
3. God Says “No”
This is often the hardest answer to accept.
Just as a loving parent refuses something that may harm a child, God sometimes denies requests that are not beneficial for us or do not fit His perfect plan.
A child may cry for ice cream when sick, but a wise parent refuses because they see the bigger picture.
Likewise, God’s “no” is not rejection; it is protection.
Romans 8:28 assures us that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him. Even unanswered prayers can become part of His greater purpose.
How Can We Experience God’s Favor?
The sermon highlights three important principles that lead to God’s blessing and guidance.
1. Obey God’s Word

Trust the God Who Directs Your Path
Eliezer’s story reminds us that God is actively involved in the lives of His people. What seemed impossible became possible because he sought the Lord and trusted Him completely.
