Forgiven to Forgive: A Call to Christian Living

One of the most profound truths of the Christian faith is this: we are forgiven not because we deserve it, but because of Jesus Christ.

Humanity fell into sin, and by justice alone, we stood condemned. God, in His holiness, had every right not to forgive. Yet in His mercy and love, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Through His sacrifice on the cross—where He shed His blood for our sins—we received what we could never earn: forgiveness.

This forgiveness is not merely a gift to receive; it is a calling to live out.

    Forgiven People Must Forgive

If God has forgiven us so greatly, how then should we respond to others?

We are called to forgive one another. This is not optional in the Christian life—it is essential. Holding onto bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness contradicts the very grace we have received.

Jesus taught clearly that forgiveness is not just something we receive, but something we must extend. If we refuse to forgive others, we place ourselves in spiritual danger, distancing our hearts from the grace we claim to have received.

    A Question for the Heart

It is worth asking ourselves honestly:

    • Are we forgiving those who have wronged us?
    • Are we holding onto past hurts?
    • Are we reflecting the mercy God has shown us?

Forgiveness is not always easy. It can be painful and requires humility. But it is through forgiveness that we experience true freedom and healing.

    The Path to Peace

    The Bible teaches us:

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)

When we choose forgiveness, we choose peace. Not just outward peace with others, but inward peace within our own hearts. Unforgiveness burdens the soul, but forgiveness releases it.

    Living as True Christians

To be a Christian is to reflect Christ. And Christ forgave—even in the face of suffering and injustice.

    Therefore, let us strive to:

    • Forgive quickly
    • Love deeply
    • Live in peace with others
    A Prayer for Us All

May God grant us hearts that are soft, humble, and willing to forgive.
May we never forget the grace we have received.
And may that grace overflow into the lives of others.

For in forgiving, we truly live as Christ intended.
