The Power of the Anointing of God
If we look at the story of Samson, we see the beginning of the mighty works God performed through him. His encounter with the young lion was sudden and unexpected. No one would imagine a lion hiding in a vineyard—yet it appeared without warning.
In the same way, trials in our spiritual lives often come from unexpected places and at unexpected times. But Scripture says:
“The Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as he would have torn a young goat.” (Judges 14:6)
“Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah. As they approached the vineyards of Timnah, suddenly a young lion came roaring toward him.” (Judges 14:5)
One key reason the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon Samson was that he had nothing in his hand—he was completely dependent on God.
Often, we may not experience God’s power in critical moments because we are still holding on to things that are not fully surrendered. There is great blessing in emptying ourselves before God and allowing Him to be our ever-present help in times of trouble.
When we face great trials, what we truly need is nothing more—and nothing less—than a mighty anointing.
When the early church faced intense persecution, they responded with boldness and power:
“With great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.” (Acts 4:33)
Although God chose Samson from his mother’s womb, his ministry did not begin until the Spirit came upon him in power. Similarly, even though we may have a high calling, we still need God’s anointing to overcome trials and become vessels fit for His purpose.
A Call to Go Deeper
Let us not be satisfied with just being filled with the Holy Spirit,
but seek to be filled to overflowing.
Let us not be content with a simple anointing,
but desire a double portion of His Spirit.
For we are not called to live ordinary lives,
but to walk in the power and purpose of God.
