Every day we live is a gift from God. His mercy sustains us, His grace gives us strength, and His love invites us to draw closer to Him. Therefore, we should never take another day of life for granted. Instead, we should use each day to thank Him, praise His holy name, and prepare our hearts for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Christian life is not simply about receiving God’s blessings. It is about walking in His ways, experiencing His transforming power, and living a life that brings glory to Him.
The account of the lame man in Acts 3 teaches us an important lesson: when we look unto Jesus in faith, our lives can be changed in ways we never imagined.
1. The Necessity of Praise
Praise is an essential part of our relationship with God. Every new day is another opportunity to acknowledge His goodness, thank Him for His mercy, and seek His grace.
The Bible reminds us in Psalm 118:24 (KJV):
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
God has preserved us and given us life for a purpose. Our response should be gratitude and faithful obedience. Even when we face difficulties, we can continue to praise Him because His faithfulness does not depend on our circumstances.
However, we must remember that we need God’s grace to live a life pleasing to Him. That grace is revealed through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice at Calvary.
Let us, therefore, cultivate a heart of thanksgiving and continue praising God every day until the day of His return.
2. The Lame Man at the Beautiful Gate
In Acts 3:1–10, we read about a man who had been unable to walk from birth. Every day, others carried him to the gate of the temple called Beautiful, where he begged for help from those entering to worship.
He was physically close to the temple, yet he could not walk inside by himself. His life had become a routine of dependence, and he expected to receive money from those passing by.
One day, Peter and John approached him. Instead of giving him silver or gold, Peter declared:
“Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” — Acts 3:6 (KJV)
Peter took him by the right hand and lifted him up. Immediately, his feet and ankle bones received strength. The man stood, walked, entered the temple with them, and began walking, leaping, and praising God.
What a remarkable transformation!
The man who had spent years sitting at the gate was now walking into the temple and praising the Lord. His circumstances changed, and his response was worship.
This miracle reminds us that Jesus Christ is greater than the things the world can offer. Money may provide temporary comfort, but it cannot replace the saving grace and transforming power of God.
3. Look Unto Jesus With Faith
The lame man expected to receive something from Peter and John, but he did not know that a far greater blessing was about to come into his life.
He listened to their words and responded to what Peter told him. His experience reminds us that we should not allow our present circumstances to limit our expectation of what God can do.
Perhaps you have been struggling with disappointment, fear, sin, or a situation that seems impossible to overcome. You may have become accustomed to living with your difficulties, believing that nothing will ever change.
But God’s invitation remains: look unto Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2 (KJV) says:
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”
Jesus knows your condition. He knows your struggles, your weaknesses, and the desires of your heart. You may feel forgotten by the world, but you can turn to the One who calls you to repentance, offers forgiveness, and leads you into newness of life.
Do not be satisfied with merely hearing about Jesus. Seek Him personally, trust His Word, and allow Him to transform your heart.
4. Silver and Gold Cannot Replace Salvation
Peter’s words remind us that the greatest gift we can share with another person is the good news of Jesus Christ.
The world often measures success by wealth, possessions, status, and achievements. Yet none of these things can purchase salvation or give us eternal life.
Mark 8:36 (KJV) asks:
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Money is not evil in itself, but it cannot reconcile us to God. A person may possess great wealth and still be spiritually empty. Likewise, someone with very little in this world can possess the priceless hope found in Christ.
God offers salvation through Jesus Christ, not as something we can purchase or earn through our own efforts, but as a gift of His grace.
Let us not become so occupied with earthly things that we neglect our relationship with God. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and remember that our greatest treasure is found in Him.
5. God Is Mindful of You
Sometimes the difficulties we see around us make it hard to understand God’s care. We may wonder whether He sees our pain or knows what we are going through.
The story of the lame man reminds us that our lives are not hidden from God. He knows our condition and understands our deepest needs.
Psalm 139:1–2 (KJV) declares:
“O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.”
God knows us completely. He sees what others cannot see, and He understands the struggles we may never share with anyone else.
We must also recognize our need for His cleansing grace. We cannot make ourselves spiritually pure by our own strength. We need the forgiveness and transforming work that come through Jesus Christ.
Whatever your condition may be today, do not turn away from God. Come to Him in humility, confess your sins, and seek His mercy.
6. Rise Up and Walk in Newness of Life
When the lame man received strength, he did not remain where he had always been. He stood up, walked, entered the temple, and praised God.
His new experience provides a powerful picture of spiritual transformation.
When we receive Christ, we are called to leave our old ways behind and begin walking according to God’s Word. Christianity is not merely a moment of emotion or a confession made with our lips. It is a life of faith, obedience, holiness, and continual growth.
Romans 6:4 (KJV) teaches that we should “walk in newness of life.”
Through the Word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit, we learn how to follow Christ. Our attitudes, choices, relationships, and daily conduct should increasingly reflect His character.
Walking with Jesus means trusting Him in difficult seasons, obeying His Word when it challenges us, and seeking His guidance each day.
We may stumble along the way, but we must continue looking to Christ, who is able to strengthen us and help us grow in faith.
7. Continue to Praise God After Your Breakthrough
One of the most beautiful details in Acts 3 is that the healed man did not quietly walk away. He entered the temple with Peter and John, walking, leaping, and praising God.
His response teaches us that God’s blessings should lead us into deeper worship and gratitude.
It is easy to pray earnestly when we need help. But do we remember to praise God when He answers our prayers? Do we thank Him for His daily mercy, His forgiveness, His guidance, and the hope of eternal life?
Praise should not be limited to moments when everything goes according to our plans. We can worship God because He is worthy, even when we do not understand everything happening in our lives.
Let our testimony point others toward Jesus. May the way we live demonstrate that God’s grace is at work within us.
8. Prepare Your Heart for the Return of Jesus Christ
The Christian life also calls us to remain spiritually watchful and ready for the return of our Lord.
Jesus taught His followers to watch and be ready. We should not allow the distractions of this world to make us careless about eternity.
Preparation begins with a genuine relationship with Christ. We must turn from sin, trust in Him as our Saviour, follow His Word, and continue growing in faith.
Acts 3 reminds us that the same Jesus whose name brought healing to the lame man is the One we proclaim as Lord and Saviour.
Let us examine our hearts honestly. Are we walking in obedience to God? Are we growing in holiness? Are we allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us? Are we living with the hope of eternity?
Today is another opportunity to draw near to God and make our lives ready for His coming.
Conclusion: Make the Decision to Look Up to Jesus
The lame man at the Beautiful Gate had spent years in a condition he could not change by himself. Yet one encounter with the power of Jesus Christ brought a new beginning.
His story reminds us that our present circumstances do not have to define our spiritual future. We must not become satisfied with temporary things while neglecting the eternal gifts God offers through Christ.
Look unto Jesus for forgiveness, strength, guidance, and newness of life. Receive His Word with faith, walk in obedience, and continue praising Him throughout your days.
Whatever your condition may be today, make the decision to seek the Lord. Do not remain spiritually distant from Him. Let His Word direct your steps, and let your life become a testimony of His grace.
May we be found faithful, walking in the Spirit, growing in holiness, and praising God until the day we meet our Lord.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your mercy and for the gift of another day. Teach us to praise You continually and to trust in Your grace. Help us to look unto Jesus in every circumstance. Forgive our sins, cleanse our hearts, and strengthen us to walk in newness of life. Fill us with the guidance of Your Holy Spirit and prepare us for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. May our lives bring glory to Your name, and may our testimony lead others to You. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
