Lord, Hear My Prayer: A Heart That God Listens To
“Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy.” — Psalm 143:1
Prayer is one of the greatest privileges given to every believer. Yet, many Christians often ask a difficult question:
“Why do some prayers seem to go unanswered?”
The Bible teaches that God always hears His children, but Scripture also reminds us that the condition of our hearts matters. Prayer is not merely speaking many words—it is coming before God with humility, repentance, faith, and obedience.
1. God Desires More Than Repeated Words
In Isaiah 1, God warned His people that although they multiplied their prayers, He would not listen because their lives were filled with disobedience and injustice.
This is a sobering reminder that God is not impressed by the length of our prayers but by the sincerity of our hearts. Genuine repentance opens the way for intimate fellowship with Him.

2. Pray with a Heart That Obeys
The psalmist cried,
“I call with all my heart; answer me, Lord, and I will obey Your decrees.” (Psalm 119:145)
True prayer is more than asking God to bless our plans. It is surrendering ourselves to His will. When we seek His guidance with a willing heart to obey His Word, our relationship with Him grows deeper.
Prayer and obedience always walk together.
3. Bring Every Burden Before the Lord
Life is filled with criticism, misunderstandings, false accusations, and injustice. Sometimes people speak against us or treat us unfairly.
Scripture encourages believers to bring these matters before God instead of seeking revenge.
God is the perfect Judge.
He sees every hidden motive, every injustice, and every tear. Nothing escapes His attention. While human courts may fail, God’s justice never does.
Instead of fighting every battle ourselves, we can confidently place our case into His hands.
4. Seek God’s Forgiveness Daily
One of the most powerful prayers a believer can pray is:
“Lord, forgive me.”
The Bible teaches us to confess our sins because forgiveness restores fellowship with God.
We all fail.
We all make mistakes.
Yet through the blood of Jesus Christ, forgiveness is available for every repentant sinner.
Repentance is not merely feeling guilty—it is turning back toward God with a changed heart.
5. Learn to Forgive Others
Jesus taught us to pray:
“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12)
Forgiveness is often difficult, especially when we have been deeply hurt.
However, forgiveness is not saying that wrong actions were acceptable. Rather, it is releasing bitterness into God’s hands and trusting Him with justice.
An unforgiving heart becomes a heavy burden, while forgiveness brings freedom and healing.
6. Forgive Yourself Through God’s Grace
Many believers struggle with guilt over past failures.
The enemy wants us to remain trapped in shame, but Christ offers complete forgiveness.
When God forgives us, we should not continue living under condemnation.
Accept His grace.
Learn from your mistakes.
Walk forward in the new life Christ has given you.
7. Remember Your Responsibility as a Believer
Every Christian has a spiritual responsibility.
We are called to:
- Share the Gospel.
- Love one another.
- Give thanks to God continually.
- Encourage fellow believers.
- Live as witnesses of Christ’s grace.
Faith is not simply something we receive—it is something we live.
8. Follow the Example of Jesus
Perhaps the greatest example of forgiveness is found at the cross.
As Jesus suffered, He prayed:
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
Even while enduring unimaginable pain, Jesus responded with mercy rather than revenge.
Final Thoughts
God hears sincere prayers.
He listens to those who seek Him with humble hearts, confess their sins, forgive others, and desire to walk in obedience.
If your prayers seem delayed, don’t lose hope. Instead, examine your heart, renew your relationship with God, and continue seeking Him faithfully.
The Lord is not distant.
He hears every genuine cry, every tear, and every prayer offered in faith.

Heavenly Father, thank You for always inviting us into Your presence. Search our hearts and reveal anything that hinders our fellowship with You. Forgive our sins, teach us to forgive others as You have forgiven us, and strengthen us to walk in obedience to Your Word.
