MUCH IN A FEW WORDS

by perfectinchristjesuslife community

A great subject expressed in too many words often loses its impact. The same is true in our daily lives—speaking much does not always produce meaningful results.

Consider the experience of Mary Magdalene. After the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, she passed through deep sorrow and emotional exhaustion. Unable to remain indoors any longer, she went early on the first day of the week to the sepulchre, hoping to tend to the body of the One she loved so dearly.

In that moment of grief and confusion, something remarkable happened. A single word from the Lord changed everything.

“Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ She turned toward Him and cried out, ‘Rabboni!’ (which means Teacher)” (John 20:16).

That one word—Mary—carried a powerful, almost magnetic influence. It opened her eyes. Though He had been standing near her all along, she had not recognized Him and had even mistaken Him for the gardener. Yet it was not a long sermon or many explanations that revealed the truth—it was just one word.

That word dispelled her fear, lifted her discouragement, and replaced her weariness with joy, peace, and grace. From that moment on, her life was transformed; she was never the same again.

Scripture reminds us:

“The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to the weary” (Isaiah 50:4).

It is often easy to speak many words without much thought. But to speak the right word at the right time requires wisdom, sensitivity, and learning.

Let us, therefore, seek to grow in this grace—to learn how to speak a word in season, a word that uplifts, heals, and brings light to those who are weary.
